Below are some links that we believe will be helpful in learning more about why we are doing what we are doing with this home:
transitional housing
September 11th, 2011, was our first info/intro session for our first transitional housing program. This house is the result of a church and people committed to, "restoring the orphan, preventing slavery, and ending cycles of poverty." We believe that all three of these come together in this one home. We are partnering with Caring Family Network and LifeWorks on this project and hope and pray that this one transitional home results in several homes for teenagers and young adults desiring to change the trajectory of their life. About a year or so ago, Austin New Church, began to ask the question, "what can we do to make the biggest impact in cycles of poverty, human trafficking, and orphan restoration in central texas?" As we began to research, take counsel, and learn from those around us, we came to find out, that foster children, who never get a 'forever-home' and end up aging out into homelessness without ever knowing the reality of family, are more than likely to not ust stay in poverty, but repeat the cycle in the children they may have. They are the local orphan population who rarely ever experience restoration to love, family, community, and life. And, they are the population most vulnerable to human trafficking (to read more, click HERE). Our response to this reality, is a home, not an institution, not a shelter, but a home. A home that offers community, family, mentorship, and direction. A home that offers a shoulder to lean on, adults that won't count these kids out if they have set-backs, a home where mentors are committed to helping these kids change the trajectory of their lives. For those who started the training on 09/11/11, we have posted the rest of the training dates below, along with some links and resources for you to read, if you would like to know more about this population and what tranisitional housing is for.
